Friday, July 6th

After our plans to fly from Alexandropolis to Athens failed (we did try to buy the tickets one day before) we ended up deciding to take the bus to the closest big city and fly from there. As we read about Thessaloniki in the guide book it actually sounded pretty cool (lots of words like "hip", trendy", "energetic") but I'd be lying if I said that we weren't a little bummed to have to delay our arrival to the southern islands

At both our guide books and Annalise's recommendation, we decide to take a boat tour down the Bosphorus, the wide strait that runs between the Asian and Europen sides of Istanbul. We walked from our hotel to Eminonu, the crazy port area where all the boats leave from. Wednesday night, June 27th

After a sort of sketchy transfer in London, where the airport was closed for a few hours for unknown reasons, we made our connecting flight to Istanbul. Unfortunately we didn't get in until late...never fun when you are going to a foreign city for the first time and don't speak the language at all!! After a truly relaxing time in Burgundy with my Mum, Dave and I headed to the dirty, throbbing, very real city of Marseille. People seemed confused at why we chose to spend our vacation days there, but it actually became one of our favorite spots so far...though we were ready to move on and hit the (glamorous, mellow, pristine) beachs near St. Tropez after four full days.
